PIRANHAS 2021 SEASON COVID FAQ
Last updated 4/1/21
WHEN WILL PRACTICES TIMES/GROUPS BE ANNOUNCED?
We will strive to announce practice information by early-April. Tentative practice start date is April 26th.
WILL TEAM SUITS BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE THIS YEAR?
No. We will ask swimmers to wear team suits from prior seasons, or any green/black suit they have.
WILL TEAM LOGO CLOTHING BE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE THIS YEAR?
Yes. We are working on logo clothing and will let you know when you can order.
HOW MANY VOLUNTEER SHIFTS WILL OUR FAMILY BE REQUIRED TO FULFILL?
We don’t know at this time. Once we understand the size of our team, and have a better understanding of how we will run our meets, we will communicate volunteer requirements and how to sign up for them.
WILL THERE BE A MINIMUM NUMBER OF DUAL MEETS REQUIRED TO SWIM TO QUALIFY FOR CHAMPS?
As this season is unofficial in terms of League records, each team will determine minimum dual meet requirements. Piranhas will not have a requirement this season, and will allow flexibility for each family, but remember, you will still be required to fulfill your required volunteer shifts, regardless of how many dual meets your Piranha participates in.
WILL PARENTS BE ALLOWED ON THE POOL DECK FOR PRACTICES?
We will communicate limitations to parents on the pool deck for practices as we approach the first practice. For swimmers 6 and under we will have a plan for the parents.
IS 2021 SEASON REGISTRATION REFUNDABLE?
No. The only exception is if you are a new family and your swimmer is deemed “not water safe” by the coaching staff during the first week.
WHAT DO THE REGISTRATION FEES PAY FOR?
Registration fees pay for coaches salaries, swimmer insurance, team spirit activities, pool utilities and Champs t-shirts.
WHAT DOES AN ‘UNOFFICIAL’ SEASON MEAN?
League records are broken at CHAMPS, and since CHAMPS is likely going to look different, and the requirements to swim at CHAMPS will be different, the League decided that the 2021 Season will be unofficial. This means League Records cannot be broken this year, even if we host a modified CHAMPS.
WILL SWIMMERS BE ABLE TO PIRANHAS TEAM RECORDS?
Piranhas who swim in a dual meet in 2021, will have the ability to chase and break standing pool records.
WILL THERE BE AWARDS AT MEETS AND POST-SEASON?
Piranhas will possibly issue awards for our hosted dual meets and for CHAMPS. Each team will manage awards differently, so certain teams may choose not to offer awards this year, for dual meets, where we are visitors. We will update this section once the season starts.
WILL THERE BE TEAM PICTURES OR A PHOTOGRAPHER FOR INDIVIDUAL PICTURES?
We don’t know at this time.
WHAT MEASURES WILL YOU BE TAKING TO ENSURE MY SWIMMER IS SAFE DURING PRACTICES AND AT MEETS?
We plan to follow all state and county public health protocols related to youth sport’s competition, athletes, coaches and observers. We will publish our protocols as we move closer to practices starting. Everyone will be required to wear a mask (except when in the water), and stay socially distanced, when possible. The good news is our sport is outdoors, in chlorinated water, which has been deemed safe since the beginning of the pandemic.
WHAT MEASURES WILL YOU TAKE TO ENSURE I WILL BE SAFE DURING MY VOLUNTEER SHIFTS AND AT MEETS?
We plan to follow all state and county public health protocols related to outdoor youth competitive sports and observers. Masks will be required. We will ask people to stay socially distant when possible. We will likely adjust the need for number of overall volunteers, per meet, including timers and recorders. We will re-envision clerk of the course, and will likely add some “COVID cleaning” positions to disinfect common areas.
Parents and swimmers will be required to sign the cabana club rules and the swim team rules before the first practice. The documents will be sent out to each family.
